Christ-centered trauma healing community

About

We are a Brevard County support group for wives of combat veterans.

We help women find the loving support they need to navigate the difficult journey of supporting a spouse with combat related trauma.

Leita Hermanson, Founder

Our founder is the former wife of a combat veteran who served in an elite special forces team in Afghanistan, in addition to other danger zones around the globe. She knows what it’s like to feel alone while taking care of children and the home-front during multiple deployments. She knows the stress that often comes after deployments, and the strain on marriages and family life due to PTSD. She found hope and healing through her walk with Christ, through churches she attended, and through support groups for women who were dealing with the aftermaths of war trauma on their husbands or partners, commonly known as post-traumatic disorder (PTSD).

After moving to Brevard County, Florida, she searched for support groups like the ones that provided a lifeline for her back in her home state of Washington. When she didn’t find any, she decided to launch one herself, to help other women like her.

As wives of combat veterans, we often feel alone, eclipsed by our husband’s service, deployments, and lives. When they return, rightly so, there is a great amount of support and many resources for combat veterans, but few resources for wives and families. We also often feel like we don’t fit in with other women in our churches, communities, or in our work. Due to our husband’s struggles with PTSD and the disruptions that military life brings, we are all too often isolated and alone.

We help women break out of the isolation so they can find hope and healing.

Here are a few of the services we provide:

We provide a confidential, safe Support Group for Women. This is a facilitated group for wives of combat veterans who are struggling with Post Traumatic Stress disorder or other issues. The support group meets weekly, and it’s structured so that women can come in at any time. It’s designed specifically for women to help them find support from women who are facing similar challenges, in a Christ-centered focus.

In safe, confidential support groups, we mostly listen and share. And in doing so, we begin to feel seen and heard again. Some of the loneliness begins to fade. It’s a one-step-at-a-time, often one-day-at-a-time, and even one-breath-at-a-time, adventure. By meeting with other Women, we can identify daily struggles common to current or post military life, and post-traumatic stress (PTSD) that stems from these experiences.

We are non-denominational and we never force views on others, but our beliefs are girded by a relationship with Jesus Christ, who is the true healer.

We also provide the Writing to Heal workshop, Bible Studies, and a Resource page with links to other sites with helpful information for wives of combat veterans.
